 When you receive a dental exam at Picasso Dental Care we will be able to help protect your teeth and oral health. We Will Take An X-Ray
During your exam, you will receive a cleaning, x-ray, and a checkup. This allows our dentists to keep you informed on the status of your teeth. When you practice proper dental health, you will know how to care for your teeth and their condition. Oral health problems will become serious and painful if you do not treat them promptly. If the results of your dental exam include the development of problems such as cavities, or gingivitis, then you will be able to immediately schedule an appointment for treatment.
During the exam, an x-ray is taken so that our dentist may check on the roots of your teeth and your jawbone. X-rays precisely show the extent of any cavities, gum disease, and bone loss. During the x-ray, our dentist will place a lead apron covering over your body that will protect it from radiation. Then our dentist will stand back behind a protective barrier to shield themselves from any radiation. While you bite down on a small piece of plastic, the scanner can be placed to take photos. We will ask you to bite down in different areas, to be able to take x-rays of your whole mouth.
We Will Clean Your Teeth
A dental hygienist will perform the cleaning portion of the exam. During your cleaning, our hygienist will scrape off plaque and tartar from your teeth. Plaque is bacteria that sticks to teeth like a film. If plaque hardens, then it will turn into hard mineral deposits called tartar that can only be removed by our dental professionals.
Our dental hygienist will brush and floss your teeth, then we can apply a fluoride gel or foam treatment to your teeth as the final step. The mineral called fluoride will help sustain your enamel's health and prevent tooth decay that will lead to cavities.
We Will Examine Your Mouth for Concerns
Now our dentist can provide your checkup. During this step we will examine your teeth and gums. We will use a light and small mirror so that we are able to inspect every crevice of your mouth. We will check your x-rays for cavities affecting your teeth or jawbone. We will check your bite to make sure that your teeth are aligning properly and without pain. We will also screen for oral cancer which can only be done by a dental professional.
Regular check-ups and cleanings are what allow dentists to maintain, evaluate, and catch problems early, before irreversible damage happens. If you have not seen your dentist in more than 6 months, you are past due for your dental check-up.
